Join Malcolm as he talks about his new book and the wildlife that live in our area.

Come on a journey, showing the rich biodiversity found along the Hindmarsh River Trail from the intricate plantlife including numerous edible species, to the local wildlife which so often evades our detection.

About the Book:

Birds of the Hindmarsh River Trail is the first bird book specific to Victor Harbor and covers over 80 bird species, featuring over 120 colour photographs; the majority of which have been taken along the trail itself by the author.

In addition, 15 illustrations of some of the birds and their nests by local wildlife artist Wendy Jennings have been included to further increase the books' usability. While the first chapter is a local field guide showing the locations along the trail where each bird is most likely to be seen, the second chapter highlights some of the threats these birds are facing along the trail.

The guide ends with a chapter describing ways in which the Victor Harbor and wider Fleurieu communities can help conserve our bird species and attract them to their home gardens.

About the Author:

Passionate about local wildlife from a young age, Malcolm is currently studying a combined degree featuring a Bachelor of Science (Honors) (Biodiversity & Conservation) and a Bachelor of Design & Technology Innovation (Plant Biology) at Flinders University, Adelaide.

From our own back gardens to the majesty of the Flinders, nature is central to who we are as South Australians. More than 90% of us get out into our parks and beaches each year, and the challenges of 2020 have only further highlighted how critical nature is for our health and wellbeing.

A new festival for South Australia

With over two hundred events for all ages, the Nature Festival is back for our second year and full of creative ways to connect with nature and each other.
